Traffic Notifications

The Status > Traffic alarms section shows any issues delaying traffic being delivered and the outcome of deliveries. Follow the below steps to receive notification of these in Slack.

Set-up Slack Notifications

Setting Up Slack for Traffic Notifications:

  1. Create a Slack Channel for Traffic Notifications

  2. Log in to Slack:

    • Go to your Slack workspace and log in.
  3. Create a New Channel:

    • On the left-hand sidebar, click the '+' button next to 'Channels' or the 'Add channels' option.
    • Select 'Create a new channel'.
    • Enter a name, e.g., ssg-traffic-notifications (Slack automatically formats channel names to lowercase and uses hyphens).
    • Add a description if desired (e.g., 'Channel for SSG traffic updates').
    • Choose whether the channel will be public or private. For most notification systems, public is preferable unless sensitive data is being shared.
  4. Add Team Members (Optional):

    • You can invite team members to the channel immediately or skip this step and add them later.
  5. Click 'Create':

    • Your new channel is ready to use.
  6. Add an App to Your Slack Workspace

  7. Access the Slack App Directory:

    • Click on 'Apps' in the left-hand sidebar.
    • At the bottom, click 'Find apps' or go to https://slack.com/apps in your browser.
  8. Create a New App:

    • Scroll to the bottom of the App Directory and click 'Build'.
    • Click 'Create New App'.
    • Choose 'From scratch'.
    • Enter an app name (e.g., 'ML SSG Traffic Monitor') and select the workspace where it will be installed.
  9. Create an Incoming Webhook for the App

  10. Enable Incoming Webhooks:

    • In your app settings, go to 'Features' > 'Incoming Webhooks'.
    • Toggle the switch to enable incoming webhooks.
  11. Add a Webhook URL:

    • Scroll down and click 'Add New Webhook to Workspace'.
    • Select the channel you created earlier (e.g., ssg-traffic-notifications).
    • Click 'Allow'.
  12. Copy the Webhook URL:

    • Once created, you will see a unique webhook URL.
    • Copy this URL; you’ll need to provide it to [email protected] for it to be used to send traffic notifications to the Slack channel.
